The Suitcase of an Au Pair, the most recognized blog

Erika is a young 24 year-old woman from Spain. She has a degree in journalism and audiovisual communication. She now lives in the USA, where she works as an au pair and manages the blog “The Suitcase of an Au Pair”.

“The Suitcase of an Au Pair” tells Erika’s experience after her decision of moving to the U.S. because of the economic crisis in Spain. “My experience, just like that of many others, began with the difficulty in finding a job,” says Erika.

Learning a language and the possibility of saving money

Erika ultimately chose the path that was most frugal. “I wanted to learn English but I also needed make money to cover my stay,” she says.

How my blog came to be

After reading about many people’s experience and packing her suitcase along with her dreams and excitement, Erika caught a plane to the USA. Before she went, she had to undergo a phase of preparation for this trip which beckoned her to a far-off American city. “I did a lot of research on the bureaucratic procedures, the salaries and work hours, the visas, and all that, and I ended up in the blogger world,” Erika explains. “Without expecting it, people started thanking me for commenting about the steps I was taking in my personal life while preparing for the trip, so I thought I’d carry on with it,” says the blogger.

Erika’s is just another of the many experiences we’ve talked about in Buscando el Norte. However, Erika uses her experience to guide other people who are considering taking the same leap.

“Being an au pair is a good way of getting to know the world, improving your skills in a foreign language, growing up, and opening up the doors for yourself for a future that who knows what might bring…”

Aside from improving her English and making some money to pay for her stay, Erika has decided to take it a step further and also enroll in a marketing course in an American university.

She went through Europa Press before taking her life to Washington, the city where she lived as an au pair. However, Erika says that after passing through the news agency, there were few job offers. For now, this audacious Spaniard is pondering staying in the States until August 2014 – and we sincerely n hope she is able to prolong her stay and reaches success in her work sector.
